Judge's Critiques
Really enjoyed my first CC appointment, thank you to all the exhibitors, to my two stewards, and to NWPBA for the invitation. There was a lot of quality in the top classes especially which made for some tough decisions.
PD (1)
1st Hughes Casiat Giro D’italia To Ukluk, what a lovely start to the day this young lad was. 7mths b/w and so full of promise, all legs at the moment but great overall outline, super head with ideal dark eye, small well furred ear, lovely bone, well made all through with a harsh coat and finished with a nice waving plume. Just lost out to the bitch in the challenge on ‘togetherness’ but an absolutely super prospect, best of luck with him in the future.
JD (2,1a)
1st Yorks’ Chardicea Mr Mcfly With Snowstruck, g/w 12mth old, already quite mature in his head properties, nice eye shape, well set ear, good neck and front with appropriate bone and good feet, great harsh coat texture, the right substance for his age, carrying his tail a fraction tight for me, moved reasonably well.
GD (1)
1st Darlows’ Iceclimb Ascent, 22mth b/w, pleasing in his head type, although he could make better use of his ears, but they were good when he did! A very workmanlike lad, longer in body but well ribbed back, feet were correctly shaped, enough bone, coat was of a good texture, tail ok, moved out soundly.
PGD (2,1a)
1st Murrays’ Snowmischief Burning Love, 2 ½ yr g/w, decent shape overall and a strong looking male in good coat and condition. A little strong in the head for me which is not helped by his being light in eye. Moved reasonably well when settled.
LD (5)
1st Singhs’ Mountain Home Sledog Staxtacular (Imp USA), 3yrs dark lad, another very breed typical workmanlike chap, not a flashy coat but correct texture, kind, intelligent expression, broad skull, ears set correctly, great legs and well shaped feet, tail perhaps a fraction tight, covered his ground really well on the move with no exaggeration.
2nd Rabys’ Yuayua At Icemoon (Imp), 2 ½ years, a slightly younger male, and he will take time to fully finish which is of course to be expected in this breed. Everything in the right place but some bits need to firm up. Very positive on the move and I really liked the overall picture he presented, will be interested to see him mature further.
3rd Johns’ Nyrakym’s All That Remains Samaljankan To Cristakell (Imp USA) JW. A different type but nice shape on this boy just has a tendency to throw himself a little too much into his front at the moment.
OD (9,3a) – What a fun class this was to judge. Full of good males of varying breed type but all possessing qualities to satisfy the standard. I was spoilt for choice.
1st Loades Ch Snowolf Black Ice Buddy, I was delighted to be able to judge this boy having previously noticed him from the ringside. He was a joy. 4yrs, b/w, correctly proportioned with the most wonderful outline, that beautiful classic head with heavy muzzle, dark but expressive eye, small ears used well and flowing into a gently arched neck which in turn flowed down over his well laid shoulders and down a gently sloping topline to a correctly set and carried tail. All carried on strongly boned legs and feet which landed foursquare every time he stopped. Moved out with perfect reach and drive, nothing over done. CC and BOB.
2nd Blackburns’ Ger/Int/NLD Ch Cristakell April Shadows JW ShCM, dark grey, another lovely male who pushed the winner all the way, not quite as good in eye but his make and shape is so good, beautifully presented in lovely coat and condition, super tail and he moved out so well, unlucky to meet my winner, his day will come I’m sure, today he had to be satisfied with the RCC.
3rd Fitherns’ Fr/Int Ch Monikoona Isildurs Light, this 4yr old g/w boy was very pleasing to the eye, steady on the move. I see I judged him as a puppy at WPBAW and he has matured very nicely.
VD (5, 3a) – Two wonderful Veteran males who would not have been at all out of place in the super open class.
1st Robbs’ Multi Ch Under Icewolf’s Star Inditarod JW ShCM, this 9yr g/w boy just seems to get better with age. He owns the ring on the move and this just edged him ahead in the class, and left me seriously tempted in the challenge but he couldn’t quite match the finish of the younger males. But still a firm favourite and it was lovely to judge him again.
2nd Wolfe’s Ch Hawkeye Polarni Usvit (Imp) another extremely worthy Ch male in superb condition and not showing his age a bit. Preferred his head and expression but not quite the outline on the move of the winner.
SBD/B (5,3a)
1st O’Brian & Hughes Freezefactor Angel Wings, 2 ½yr g/w bitch, in her underwear and full of beans but a really quite nice Malamute, who could go far with the right training and conditioning. Keep working at it! Best Special Beginner
2nd Warburtons’ Tailfly Jitterbug, very pretty g/w 2yr old who was the better schooled of the two, but couldn’t quite match the winner on construction.
PB (5,2a)
1st Dolans’ Siskara Sweet Child Of Mine, 8mth g/w, very together for her age, stood and moved like a pro, liked her for overall shape and substance although she was carrying perhaps a fraction more weight than ideal. Well balanced angles. Nice bone and lovely feet. Really good coat texture. Topline needs to settle but that will come, lovely tail.
2nd Whymans’ Tailfly Bloodline, b/w not as together as the winner but a nice baby girl of pleasing type, good coat, correct tail, balanced angles, moved soundly.
3rd Robbs’ Icewolf Jupiter Rising.
JB (6,2a)
1st Blackburns’ Chardicea Party Girl and 2nd Moggs Skidooshooz Time To Shine (ai), really enjoyed judging these two promising young ladies who were so close up to one another and will change places many times I think. Both just right for their age in body and build, both covered ground comfortably and positively on the move. I preferred the head qualities of Time To Shine, but Party Girl had a slightly better return of upper arm which allowed her to just pip her rival into second place on the go around. I shall watch them both develop with interest.
GB (3)
1st Jelfs’ Lapema Gia Visto JW, g/w big framed bitch with plenty of daylight under her, lots to like and very well presented and handled. Moved cleanly and covered her ground, strong head with nice eye, could use her ears better to frame her face but very sweet expression, super tail, think she needs time but will be very nice when fully mature.
2nd O’Brian&Hughes Freezefactor Angel Wings.
PGB (2)
1st O’Brian&Hughes Freezefactor Angel Wings.
2nd Dziergas&Ashworths’ Artictreks Black Sheep, 3 ½ yrs b/w, strong bitch of a larger type, moderate angles, correct coat texture, moved ok.
LB (4,2a)
1st Clarkes Electra Illa Kuvianartok At Whiteout (Imp Pol) judged this bitch last year at the club show and she continues to mature nicely. She has the prettiest of heads, beautifully balanced with a dark eye and intelligent expression. Ideal bone and correctly shaped feet, lovely ribbing, good coat, great tail. She is so light on her feet, on the move she is a pleasure to watch. She just has a slight tendency to hunch her topline when standing, which I hope she will grow out of.
2nd Haywoods’ Cherubini Atene Winterscall, another good bitch who pushed hard for the class. Pretty girl and well made all through, just not quite as strong on the move.
OB (10) – Another wonderful Open class.
1st Ropers’ Int/Bel Ch Tokosha Made You Look (ai) ShCM 6yrs dark grey, fully mature and on top form, this girl is another I have liked in the past, and today she had to really dig deep, not only to top this smashing class but then to take on the Veteran bitch in the Challenge. She has the most lovely eye shape and colour, correct broad muzzle and strong skull but still feminine, great front with long well laid shoulder, echoed by a great return of upper arm, to give that strong chest with the weight well under the body. Well ribbed back, strong moderately angulated hindquarters, beautiful plume tail. I was amazed to learn this was her first CC, I do hope the other two follow swiftly.
2nd Brouards’ Sutarka Coco Chanel At Orsamals, this bitch was new to me and I liked her very much indeed. She is another I would happily give a green card to. Beautiful head of different type to my winner but equally correct, and again in body she was of a different type being slightly smaller and more compact but still very much in keeping with the standard. Good topline, good tail moved very well and handled beautifully. I’m sure she will get her title.
3rd Browns’ Skidooshooz Bohemian Soul Of Cupun (ai) one of the bigger bitches but so well balanced and well handled that she really earned her place in this super class.
VB (2) – As with the Veteran dogs, these bitches were a testament to the breed and a credit to their owners
1st Blaneys Ch Windberg Paparazzi To Fenrirkin ShCM, it is with a wry smile I write that I have nothing new to say about this wonderful b/w bitch who I have judged on several previous occasions. But if you want to see how a Malamute should move, watch her go. She had to concede top honours to the Open bitch today, but was a worthy recipient of the RCC, and Best Veteran in stiff competition.
2nd Thompsons’ Shomont Ras Ma Taz, a bitch I don’t recall having judged before but when I looked up her breeding I’m not surprised I liked her. Very unlucky to meet 1, very well matched in qualities and again presented in super condition. Moved out well. A lovely bitch.
