Judge's Critiques

What a joy to be back judging again, and at such a superbly run show, on just the hottest day. Congratulations to all of the Society, on managing to put on such a terrific event. The dogs and most exhibitors coped well with the extreme heat. I actually ended up with heatstroke so was unfortunately unable to stay to watch the group. Thank you so much for such a lovely entry, and for good sportsmanship when I had to make some difficult decisions. Since I judged the breed last time, I do notice some issues , mainly overlarge misplaced ears, rather overlong muzzles lacking depth , poor tail carriage and set, and incorrect bites. However, I also had some super dogs and very promising youngsters. Temperaments were a credit to the breed.

PD 1 (1abs)
1. Horsman-Phoenix & Horsman, Nordicwinds Greatest Showman, 7mth old stunner, with super temperament and full of confidence and style. Really good make and shape for age. Head well balanced for one so young with with well set and shaped eyes of dark brown. Skull starting to broaden out and ears well placed. Fore and aft angulation spot on for age. Positive and typical movement for such a youngster. Later BP in Breed. I shall watch his progress with interest.

JD 3.
1st. Blair’s , Cedarcreek Heart of London, I loved this dog and see a lot of potential in him. Only 14mths . Ex type. Super head. Broad skull, with well set ears of correct size. Muzzle still needing to deepen slightly as he matures. Correct stop and strong powerful neck. Well laid shoulders and front developing well. Straight back with required slight slope from shoulders to croup. Well ribbed up with good depth of chest. A pleasure to watch on the move, especially in profile. Powerful, rthymic and true. A very promising exhibit, to whom I had no hesitation in awarding the RCC later.
2. Innes, Icecool Atomic, another nice exhibit just carrying a bit of weight today, which spoilt his movement. Pleasing head type, and strong slightly arched neck. Well made throughout with balanced angulation. Front good and deep chest. Tail set correct. Good prospect.

GD 1.
1. Martin’s, Wen Magick Happenz at Dreamwolves. A really nice typical boy of good breed type. Head of correct proportions , with medium well furred well set ears and well shaped and set dark eyes. Front strong and parallel, and deep chest with enough lower leg. Good movement. Would prefer slightly less curl to tail.

PGD 2.
1. Darlow’s , Iceclimb Ascent, a really super dog of great type. Powerful and strong looking but not overdone. Suffering a slight cosmetic problem today but this did not detract. Ex type, ever inch the sled dog. Typical head with very appealing expression and so well balanced. Strong neck of correct length and good front. Correct feet and almost vertical pasterns. Well ribbed and strong back. Low set hocks. Great drive to rear. Super rythmic movement. Really liked him.
2. Smith&Smith, Snowshoes Who Dares Wins, another nice dog, preferred angulation on 1st. Well balanced attractive head. Lovely well set dark brown eyes. Fore and aft well balanced, but moving wide on rear today, possibly feeling heat.

LD 10. (3abs)
1. Raby’s, Yuayua at Icemoon. ( Imp Sweden), best mover in the class, powerful, rhythmic and ground covering. Very nice head type, broad skull with correct medium sized triangular thick furry ears and dark obliquely set dark eyes. Muzzle balancing skull. Good bodily proportions, and correct angulation. Deep well ribbed chest. Correct leg length, with almost vertical pasterns. Large compact feet and we’ll let down hocks. Ex coat for texture and quality. Tail carriage ok. Nice dog.
2. Dolan’s , Siskara Bohemian Rhapsody, another nice lad unlucky to come up against winner. Hard to fault, just not moving quite as well today. Good head type, well balanced throughout. Good strong neck with well laid shoulders, straight back with slope to croup. Well balanced front which matched rear. Medium bend to stifles, low hocks and compact feet. Correct tail set and carriage. Loving waving plume. Super double coat of good texture.

OD 7.
1. Forsey, Cristakell April Moon Over Muzoku, 6 year old lad, of an understated type, who could so easily be overlooked by a more flashy individual. An excellent example of the breed, who is of undeniable quality. Not the largest of males but well within standard. Strong, well boned, and well muscled which some lacked. His movement was a joy to behold, strong, powerful, perfectly single tracking, could really see him driving through the snow with a heavy load. Super rhythmic style. Excellent head of correct proportions. Broad skull with correct medium wide set triangular ears. Good stop and good width and depth of muzzle. Good bite. Correct width to front and correct length and angle to upper arm. Back straight and firm with good well ribbed chest and correct depth to leg length. Well bent stifles and low hocks. Compact large feet. Lovely tail set and carriage with good plume.. Really quality boy. Later D.C.C.
2. Loades, Ch. Snowolf Black Ice Buddy, another lovely boy of 6 1/2yrs not coping so well with extreme heat of day. A dog I have long admired from a distance. A super example of the breed for type. Ex head type, of perfect balance. Broad skull with good width between medium well set triangular ears. Dark eyes of ex set and shape. Deep muzzle of good breadth. Would prefer a more sound bite. Body really well assembled with good ratios . fore and aft and pleasing outline. Well ribbed chest and correct leg length. Large compact feet and low set hocks. Ex tail set and carriage with waving plume. Typical rhythmic movement .

VD/ B 11 (2)
1st. Jarvis, Nordicwinds All Attitude, very nice 7 year old girl of good type. Typical head with sweet expression , lovely expressive dark eyes. Strong neck and straight back, well ribbed up and deep chest, balanced angulation . Well muscled and nice sweep to stifle. Hocks well let down. Moved well, especially in profile.
2. Mountstephens, & Pulleys, Ch Inupiat’s Quilt Henrik at Whitewalker, (imp Norway,) 8 yr old male . Excellent head with broad skull, well set on ears, deep muzzle and well set and shaped eyes. Good ratios throughout with correct bone and angles. Correct tail set and carriage. Just moving close behind today, better in profile.

PB 2.
1st. Horsman-Phoenix, Nordicwinds Miss Marvel, what a poppet. Sister to PD winner. Loving her day out and behaving so well. Very stylish, and good outline already, of course lots of maturing to do. Ears still looking large but as her head fills out they will be fine. Body still very immature but shaping up well. Really super movement for one so young. Coat coming well. A delight.
2. Bogle’s &Horsfield, Cahppes Tailwind Takala At Valknut (naf/taf)
Smaller girl than one and looking a bit square at the moment. Good bone and reasonable angulation for age. Head in proportion, with well set ears and eyes. Excellent coat for quality and texture. Did not move as positively as one today.

JB 1.
1st. Singh, Mountain Home Sledog Talkin’ All That, (imp USA) Super stylish girl of ex make and shape. Lots of maturing to do, will be interested to watch her progress. Well balanced with good head type. Dark eyes obliquely set with lovely expression. Correct arch to neck with well set shoulders. Strong front of correct width, and good bone. Chest deep and well ribbed , strong back, correct bend to stifles. Ex tail set. Moved well.

YB (5)
1st. Browns, Cupan’s Masterpiece, real top quality girl, who I just loved. Took my eye immediately. Near on perfect head type, and such a typical overall look. Built so well, like a text book copy , which showed in her superb movement, which was a joy to watch coming and going and in profile. Correctly angulated throughout, I could not fault her. I predict a great future for this lovely girl. My pleasure to award her RCC later.
2nd. York’s, Chayo Starstruck with Snowstorm, taller girl also of good type. Pleasing head of good proportions with good width to skull perceptible stop and correct width and depth to muzzle. Eyes and ears correct. Front a little under angulated at present compared to rear which was spot on. Moderately low set hocks and compact feet. Tail set good. Moving a little short on front but good drive from rear.

GB 2
1. Perfitt’s, Samjoe the Good Witch, 18 month old bitch of average head type. Needs time to develop. Moderate angulation fore and aft, but front rather wide. Strong neck but could do with slightly more length to give better shoulder placement. Moderate bend to stifles. Hocks quite low set, and feet tight. Moved okay despite the heat.
2. Dziergas & Ashworth, Arctictreks Black Sheep, 5 year old lovely natured girl, not coping with heat too well. Good broad skull and wide set triangular ears, and dark eyes, muzzle balancing skull. Body a little on long side for height. Angulation moderate, not moving so well today, and left all her coat at home ! Sweet girl.

PGB 3(1).
1st. Isherwood’s Tailfly Bloodline, promising girl of 2 and half years. Head good, skull broad narrowing to eyes which could be better shape. Perceptible stop with moderately strong muzzle. Ears wide set and we’ll shaped. Neck strong and arched, shoulders moderately sloping. Back straight but not level, showing slight slope to croup. Front and rear angulation well matched. Well ribbed and deep chest. Moderate bend to stifles, and low set broad hocks. Well carried plumed tail. Moving well in heat.
2. Butler’s Paha Sapa Mais Blahnik Via Kaytoo (imp Ita) another nice girl, very pleasing head, good broad skull with ears set well apart and of correct size and shape. Skull narrowing to eyes which good shape, set and colour. Muzzle strong and deep. Angulation well proportioned throughout. Front of correct width and chest deep. Moderate bend to stifles and broad hocks. Well set tail and nice plume. Not moving as well as 1 today.

LB 7.
Super quality class.
1. Horsman-Phoenix, Snow Legend Be My Lucky Nordicwinds, lovely 3 year old who showed her socks off to win this quality class. Super head type of near on perfect proportions. Medium triangular well furred and wide set ears and dark eyes with lovely expression. Strong well arched neck, good lay to shoulder, and correctly angled upper arm. Firm strong back of correct length, and slight slope to rear giving good tail set. Good sized compact feet with arched toes. Lovely plume tail. Moved well.
2. Dolan’s Siskara Dead Ringer For Love, yet another nice girl, unlucky to meet winner. Another with a really nice head piece. Well boned throughout. Body well constructed, and muscled with matching angles fore and aft. Ex coat for type and texture. Everything to like about this girl , down to her waving plume. Moved well in the intense heat.

OB 10. (3)
1st. Smith’s Snowshoes The White Witch, 4 year old girl exhibiting everything I was looking for. In pristine condition and looking the complete picture. So attractive but still maintaining the essential attributes of the Malamute. So typical of the breed standard, with a perfect headpiece, arched strong neck, well laid shoulders , and everything in proportion. Super angulation, which showed when she powered round the ring showing good reach and drive. In super coat, showing dense undercoat and thick course guard coat showing big ruff round neck. Correct feet with tight arched toes and good tail carriage with waving plume. Cc and BOB.
I heard later this was her 3rd cc , making her up subject to KC confirmation.
Congratulations.
2. Browns, Skidooshooz Bohemian Soul of Cupun.( Ai), another really super girl whom I fell in love with. Although totally out of coat, I could not deny her second place. Oozing quality, absolutely super make and shape. A bigger girl than 1, but so well balanced, she really took my eye. Real typical head, powerful and broad. Lovely moderately large eyes , set well, and really dark. Slight narrowing to flattish cheeks, with large strong muzzle. Good arch to strong neck, and moderately sloping shoulders. Well boned throughout. Strong straight back which slopes to croup. Sweeping stifles, low well set broad hocks and ex feet. Tail well set and plumed. Loved her powerful rhythmic movement. Love to see her in coat.
Heard later she is dam to my RCC winner. A real chip off the old block, so to speak.

B. Greenland.( Rajarani).
