Judge's Critiques
The entry of 163 from 144 dogs was very flattering and I was more than happy with the overall quality. PGD was an uneven class with quite a few grumpy Malamutes fond of their own voices. Such a big strong breed needs “parental control” with a fair but firm approach. Type and size are still quite mixed. A few appeared to be a little short on the leg for perfect balance. There were also some with level toplines instead of the correct slightly sloping outline.
PD (12, 2)
1 Copley-Holland’s Tailfly Turnround Glider At Katabatic. 11 months, well constructed, in excellent form, broad skull, intelligent expression, easy mover going round the ring using his hindquarters well, front needs to strengthen, steady showman, very well handled as was
2, Murray &Whyman’s Tailfly To The Runner. Litter brother to first, excellent coat, in good muscular condition, kind dark eyes, good reach and drive on the move but his mind was somewhere else. Sired by CC winner.
3 Roper’s Tokosha Atka.
JD (11, 1)
1 Copley-Holland’s Tailfly Turnround Glider At Katabatic.
2 Murray &Whyman’s Tailfly To The Runner.
3 Prout’s Icewolf A Touch Of Darkness.
PGD (14, 4) Difficult and rather mixed class.
1 Mort’s Arcticbreeze Blizzard Of Oz. 12 months, comfortable winner, moved with drive, keen and showy, excellent coat, body and bone, clean outline, well handled.
2 Ballington-Graham’s Catua A Kind Of Majyk. 19 months, another by CC winner, attractive head, excellent bone, clean well presented coat, good muscletone, not quite the topline of first.
3 Squire’s Polarpaws Pari Mi Gucci At Coldspell.
LD (17, 3)
1 Henworth’s Akaila’s Wolfraven Tuk-so (Imp). Two and a half years, typy dog in splendid form, quality head, broad muzzle, intelligent expression, strong fit body in hard condition, well presented coat, sound active mover, steady and calm about it all.
2 Loades’ Snowolf Long Island. 5 years, good silhouette and overall proportions, willing showman, good topline and depth of body, excellent bone, pleasing head and eyes, good stride.
3 Owen’s Zeelukzak Magic Moment ShCM.
OD (15, 2). Good class.
1 and CC, Hunter’s Ch Tuvaurat Made In America JW ShCM. 3 years, was my Res BD when I last judged Malamutes. Not in full coat today but he is such a sound, healthy and active male that he still had to have the big green card. Steady performer, well proportioned, good neckline, quality head, very serious expression, well carried tail, powerfully built and he moved very well, clean and well presented.
2 Ellis’ Ch Chayo Dom Perignon ShCM. This 5 year old was not far behind and it was quite a close contest between first and second. Deep strong chest, well muscled and very fit, lovely outline, has quality written all over him, most typical head, composed showman, sound mover, short of coat.
3 Wilkinson’s Gwinner Lapema Star De Jungla Negra (Imp).
PB (15, 4)
1 and BP, York’s Chayo Sweet Sensation At Snowstruck. I really fell for this six and a half month big bundle of delight. Lovely bone, great prospect, when she concentrated, looked very good indeed, moved soundly with plenty of power, keen and alert outlook, feminine head, good body and quarters. By Blue Thunder, as was my BOB and both RCC winners. Full of promise.
2 Sale’s Snowallen Oneidaz.
3 Hunter &Whyman’s Tokosha Siku.
JB (15, 2)
1 Jebson’s Icewolf A Touch Of Class For Austmans. 17 months red of lovely shape, good bone and outline, carrying a bit of surplus weight but this did not restrain her movement at all, good coat, well handled, feminine head, mouth not 100 per cent.
2 Aitchison &Hurst’s Kegluneq Dolce Vita. 16 months, feminine bitch in good form, sound and active on the move, in hard muscular condition, could be a little broader and stronger in muzzle, sympathetically handled.
3 Duggan’s Pelentan Stella Aurora.
PGB (30, 11) Even with a number of absentees, the ring looked quite full.
1 Hunter’s Tuvaurat Inoka. 2 years old quality bitch of excellent type, shape and proportions, well coated and conditioned, typical head, ample bone, easy mover, strong and agile, showed with composure, apparently she was my BP when I judged at Bath. I still like her very much.
2 Clarke’s Cristakell Aishen Tor At Whiteout. 27 months, excellent side movement, strong body, deep chest, well proportioned head, clean outline, good bone and substance.
3 Copley-Holland’s Chayo Living The Dream At Katabatic.
LB (19, 7) Good class.
1 Towers &Rivers’ Polarpaws Naknek Dreamer ShCM. Four and a half years, excellent type and size, correct topline, good bone and depth of body, well muscled, rhythmic movement, powerful quarters, well shown and handled, attractive head and expression.
2 Shorer-Wheeler’s Koromandel Somebody Told Me JW.
3 Clark’s Polarpaws Apache Princess At Shamanictrax. Half sister to first.
OB (15, 3) Most enjoyable class to judge, where 2 litter sisters were battling it out for first and second.
1, CC and BOB, Ellis’ Chayo Forget Me Not. 5 years, absolutely in her prime and here she never put a foot wrong standing or moving, feminine, very classy. I liked her head, eyes and expression, strong body and quarters, held her topline on the move, well furred tail correctly carried, lovely coat and condition, good feet, tireless gait with plenty of drive, looked as if she could go all day.
2 York Chayo Sapphire Blue At Snowstruck. Another first class bitch looking in top form, quality head, alert, intelligent expression, well carried ears, excellent body, bone and outline, good coat and condition, sound mover, very fit, well deserved the RCC.
3 Williams’ Craigllety Mabel Joy. All three are sired by Ch Chayo Blue Thunder. Quite a remarkable male himself who is obviously passing on his good looks to his progeny.
