Judge's Critiques
I would like to thank all exhibitors for a great entry and the relaxed ringside atmosphere. There was plenty of support for each class and there was a sense of great sportsmanship amongst spectators and exhibitors alike, making it a very enjoyable CC appointment for me. With having such large class numbers, the use of a double ring for this working breed was a bonus. Presentation and condition of the exhibits on the whole was commendable and a credit to the exhibitors and overall temperaments were excellent. My main concern was the number of poor feet, level bites and large ears that I came across. Other than that I would ask exhibitors to pay more attention to clipping nails and general cleaning of teeth. I was delighted that my principal winners did so well in their respective groups; Best of Breed was shortlisted in the Group, Best Puppy achieved Group 3 and Breeder Team placed 2nd in the Breeders Group. Well done everybody.
MPD (9, 3a)
1. Copley-Hollands Tailfly Turnround Glider at Katabatic. Young dog who makes a pleasing shape for his age. Has ample bone and acceptable tail carriage. Nice head but would prefer smaller ears. Bite ok, coat a little flat. Handled and presented well. Moved well for a youngster.
2. Lady K Jesse’s Monikoona Blackfoot Shadow. Lovely youngster with moderate bone. Well put together with gentle sloping topline and correct tailset. Super expression, nice dark eye but again would prefer smaller ears. Good feet. Correct bite. Unsettled on the move and therefore lost out to 1.
PD (8, 0a)
1. Wilkinson’s Icewolf A Touch de Lapema. Although on the smaller side makes a super outline with well furred tail carried correctly and great rear angulation. Has soft expression and almond shaped dark eye. Handled and moved well
2. Prout’s Icewolf A Touch of Darkness. Litter brother to 1, a larger dog with the same qualities as class winner but not as free and easy on the move.
JD (11, 4a)
1. Smiths Zeelukzak Simply Snazzy . This young male pushed hard for the RDCC. A powerful mover as one would expect from this kennel. Heavy bone, strong neck and firm topline with correct tail carriage. Broad head with appealing expression, dark almond eye and correct scissor bite. Harsh coat and large, compact feet.
2. Ballington-Graham’s Catua A Kind of Majyk. Good width of head with correct scissor bite, eye shape slightly round. Adequate bone. Coat harsh. Tailset good. Moved ok but felt he didn’t give his all.
PGD (16, 2a)
1. Bullock and Mort’s Arcticbreeze Blizzard of Oz. Well muscled young lad in great condition. Coat harsh and stand off, strong front with short pasterns, good bend of stifle and held topline on the move. Covered ground effortlessly. Maturing nicely.
2. Brook’s Snobruk Icedrifter. Liked this dog a lot and a very close call but preferred the shape overall of 1. Lovely typy head, good bite , eye shape correct but would prefer smaller ears. Great tailset.
LD (16, 4a)
1. Armenti’s Mayook Del Biagio (It Imp). Lovely young male who has a lot a promise. He has a beautiful head with small ears, correct eye shape but would prefer darker eye, bulky muzzle and depth of skull. Gentle sloping topline and correct spring of rib. Good tailset and carriage on the move. Snowshoe feet with a powerful side gait.
2. Smith’s Zeelukzak Bilbo Baggins. Another boy with a beautiful head, neat ears, dark eye and strong muzzle. Well muscled, correct coat with strong front and rear that propelled himself around the ring. These two could swap places on another day.
OD (12, 1a)
1. Liebrand’s NL Ch AM CH Sno Quests Limited Edition. This dog has great ring presence. He is a stunning dog and a wonderful example of the breed. So much to like about him. Super head with the smallest of ears, alert expression, great bone, superb stand off coat, correct topline and tail and fabulous large, compact feet. Lovely open side gait, moving with forward reach. DCC and BOB, pleased to see him short listed in the group.
2. Wilkinson’s Gwinner Lapema Star De Jungla Negra. Another lovely example of the breed albeit different in type to number 1. Makes a good shape has a wonderful waving plume, easy on the move and in good hard condition. Presented and handled well. RDCC
MPB (3, 1a)
1. Nawrocka’s Monikoona Behind Brown Eyes. Very pretty bitch with lovely feminine head, in tip top condition and presented well. Good tail set and coat, moved neatly and soundly around the ring for such a youngster. BPIB and PG3
2. Bartletts Articrainbow Silver Lady. Makes a pleasing shape and in good coat. Moved ok. Lovely tail, when she used it.
PB (8, 0a)
1.Robb’s Icewolf a Touch of Scarlet. Very striking sable coated bitch with a gorgeous expression, who has a lovely outline but spoils herself by not using her tail. Moved well when settled. Felt she could have made so much more of herself.
2. Duggan’s Pelentan Stella Aurora. Another nice youngster who gave us the comedy moment of the day !! Went well on the move when finally settled. Lovely expression with nice dark eye and in good coat. One to watch for the future.
JB (7, 2a)
1. Corkhill’s Justami Great Expectations. Happy young bitch. Very pretty head with a lovely full coat. Super extension front and rear, covering the ring well.
2. Archer’s Hyteton Relu Bella. Black and white bitch who moved soundly. Ample bone, in hard condition with thick coat. Strong but not overdone head, good topline and lovely tail.
PGB (29, 3a)
1. Cornah Wade’s Hawkam Last Chance. This young lady won on overall shape and movement. Really liked her, she has a lot of promise. Well off for bone and correct bite. Unfortunately not in full coat .
2. Waker’s Kaiyuh Spirit Runner. Very pretty bitch with a lovely soft expression. A good honest young lady with nothing exaggerated.
LB. (17, 6abs)
1.Bullock & Mort’s Arcticbreeze Lady Imocara. Quality bitch in impressive coat and condition. Very well presented and handled. Scored on type overall, feminine head, lovely dark oblique eye and good bite. Correctly proportioned. Moved so easily around the ring. She caught my eye straight away and has a bright future, I’m sure. RBCC
2. Smith’s Zeelukzak All Eyes On Me. Strong head and in good hard condition, tail carriage good, nice spring of rib, well assembled front and true on the move coming and going.
OB. (17, 7abs)
1. Howarth’s Hawkam’s Harlequin ShCm. A really classy bitch and at 7 and half years of age she is in excellent condition. Thick, coarse coat and waving tail. Feminine head with dark eye. Small, thick and well furred ears. Heavy bone with strong short pasterns and ample front and chest. An excellent example of a female malamute. BCC – her third CC and a worthy champion!
2. Ballington-Graham’s Dankatcha’s Zudi at Catua. Beautiful red and white bitch. This girl is so easy on the eye, sound on the move but was somewhat lack lustre today. In good coat, with great tail and a really lovely outline. She has sufficient bone, nice feet and good rear angulation.
BEST BREEDER Mr & Mrs Smith’s Zeeklukzak Kennel. Four Malamutes all extremely typy, moving well around the ring and looking for all they were worth that they could indeed do the job they were bred for. Quality examples of the Alaskan Malamute Breed. Placed 2nd In The Breeder’s Working Group.
