Judge's Critiques

I would like to thank the Birmingham City Committee for the judging appointment, and my stewards for helping me through the day. I would also like to thank everyone who entered; it was the 4th highest entry in the group. I would like to make a point to breeders and exhibitors; in some classes we are seeing a lot of very different types, so much so that in some classes of 12 dogs two do not look of the same type, this is disappointing and I must urge breeders to breed to phenotype or genotype but at the very least find a male that has something that you need to improve in your line. I had two main issues on the day, around 50% of dogs had a level bite or worse. n all my years judging this is the first time I feel I need to mention temperament. Far too many exhibits were growling, not a Malamute talking but an actual growl; the standard states affectionate, friendly and loyal.
On a positive note I was pleased with my top winners, they should all go on to achieve big things. The depth of quality in bitches is stronger than the depth in the males, it has been this way for a few years and I don’t have the answer this is just an observation. Grooming and presentation was exceptional, which is a must. The handling still needs improvement and my advice is talk to handlers and learn what makes the difference between 1st and 4th.
I would like to thank you all for taking the time to bring your dogs under me; a lot of my decisions were close so placing could easily change.

PD, (9) First 3 males all of different types and positions could easily change.
1. Wilkinson & Jelfs’ Lapema Angel De Cambias. 10 month old male, good ear shape/set, although left ear not fully up it will get stronger, straight front and good width and depth of chest for age, good bone down to tight compact feet, correct front and rear angulations, waving plume tail set, clean coming and going, kept his topline on the move and the most together puppy which helped achieve BPIB.
2. Blackburn’s Chayo Ice Cold Apparition. Stunning head on this boy, broad but not coarse, small well set/shaped ears, dark oblique eye, correct depth and width of muzzle, lovely expression, strong bone and feet, harsh coat, correct depth of chest to leg length, a little bum high at the moment which restricts his side gait. This should correct itself as he matures.

JD, (11,5) Very difficult class as the dogs are going through their teenage years and are at different stages of growth.
1. Dolan’s Ishjamani Hey Joe. Large junior male but the most together in the class. Broad masculine head, moderately arched neck, gently sloping topline leading to a well plumed tail, heavily boned but front needs to tighten up. In full coat with excellent rear angulation, moderately bent and well let down hocks.
2. Moorhouse & Bullen’s Monikoona Ace Of Spades. Another large male, large broad skull, dark oblique eye, thick well furred ears, strong moderately arched neck, good bone and substance, large compact feet, good spring of rib, a little bit raw at the moment and needs to grow into himself.

PGD (10,1)
1. Mort’s Arcticbreeze Midnite Hero. Handsome male of a nice size, excellent head, with broad strong muzzle, small well placed/shaped ears, dark oblique eye, good bone, strong in pasterns, well arched compact feet, gently sloping topline, good lay of shoulder and spring of rib, clean coming and going. Would prefer more extension on his side gait and length of neck but I was very pleased to award him Res CC.
2. Robb’s Icewolf Max A Million. Nice young male of very different type to 1. Small ears, correct bite, well arched neck, gently sloping topline, waving plume, liked his overall proportions, very clean coming and going but too quick on the move which meant his side gait is over extended and inefficient costing him a higher award.

LD (13.3)
1. Thompson’s Shomont Raisin Cain. Loved his head, with correct shaped/set ears, nice width and depth of skull, strong in front and rear with good angulation, good bone, slightly longer in body, correct tail set, moved with drive but needs to relax more (due to his age). He pushed hard for the Res CC. Looking forward to seeing him mature.
2. Malloy & Edward’s Koolrunnings Rock With You. 2 year old male of different type than 1. Small ears, would prefer more oblique eye, but a handsome boy, nice straight front compact body, good depth of chest to leg proportions, harsh coat, tight well arched feet, in good hard condition and easy mover. Excellent presentation and well handled.

OD (7,4)
1. Ellis’s Chayo My Prerogative. Very attractive young male with nice broad skull, dark oblique eye, correct small well shaped and set ears, strong depth and width of muzzle, moderately arched neck, gently sloping topline, large bone with tight compact feet, correct harsh coat. Would prefer better tail set. Well-muscled, very well presented and handled, good in front and rear with correct angulation this showed on his side gait as he covered the ground with power. Pleased to award him the CC which made him up to a UK Champion and BOS.
2. Robb’s Under Icewolf’s Star Inditarod. Different in type than 1, beautiful wedge shaped head on this male, good depth and width of chest, nice spring of rib and length of loin, perfect tail set, strong in pasterns, well arched feet, clean movement coming and going. Needs to slow down on movement to get the best from him, not in full coat.

GCD (2,1)
1. Burgess’s Cedarcreek Endurance at Mountainglen. Male with a lovely temperament, broad skull, moderately arched neck, gently sloping topline, good bone, large tight compact feet, would prefer better chest to leg ratio. He got startled in the hall which affected his movement and he needed time to settled down.

VB (3) Lovely class, these girls still have quality which in a breed that takes time to mature was very pleasing.
1. Tower’s Polarpaws Naknek Dreamer. Lovely feminine bitch, nice good strong front, well arched length of neck, liked her depth of chest to leg ratio, good harsh coat, still strong in pastern, excellent on the move, would prefer more oblique eye.
2. Wyard’s Cherdene Gis A Bit for Brandelle. Another feminine bitch of good quality, good fore chest, gently sloping topline, good spring of rib, enough bone, clean coming and going, preferred side gait of 1 but very close.

PB (8,3)
1. Jackson’s Inupiats Iliq Be Bop A Lu La. Strong in head for age, good depth and width of skull, small well set/place ears, a little bum high at the moment due to age, correct tail set and carriage. Would prefer more drive on the move, this may come with age, sweet temperament. 2. Louch & Forsey’s Magician Day Before You Come at Mazoku. Different in type to 1, nice sloping topline, good front and rear angulation, good bone and substance, clean coming and going, very immature in head, she may take time to see her at her best.

JB (8,3) 1. Shah’s Shamanrock Destiny Child. Lovely pretty seal and white bitch, small ears, very dark oblique eye, scissor bite, moderately arched neck leading to a correct sloping topline, in good coat, good bone and feet, good front and rear angulation which showed on the move, covering the ground with ease.
2. Henworth’s Wolfraven Rumors Comet. Another lovely bitch, different than 1 but as good in all areas, so fluent on the move, perfect tail set, good bone and substance, nice depth of chest and length of loin, both 1 & 2 are full of quality making it very difficult to choose.

PGB (14,5)
1. Mort’s Arctibreeze Midnite Echo. Stunning bitch, considered her for the ticket. Lovely oblique eye although would prefer a touch darker, correct ear shape and placement, feminine expression, strong moderately arched neck, moderately sloping shoulders, short strong pasterns, waving plume, tight compact feet, steady gait, very nice in type.
2. Blackburn’s Celticwolf Long Night. Pretty bitch with dark oblique eye, lovely small ears, good front and rear angulation, strong width and depth of chest, perfect tail set, well handled. I would prefer more drive on the move.

LB (12,4)
1. Wolfe’s Follow My Dreams Polarni Usvlt via Dreamwolves. A bitch who caught my attention as soon as she entered the ring. Perfect head, broad and deep skull, with small wedge shaped ears, dark oblique eye, correct depth/width of muzzle which gives her a very soft expression, moderately arched neck leading to a gently sloping topline, good front and rear angulation, with moderately bent and well let down hocks, excellent bone, she moved with drive but just lost out in the final movement as she toed in slightly. A female who deserves to be made up.
2. Wheeler’s & Roger’s Monikoona Eclipse At Northspirit. Another quality female with lots of substance, good spring of rib, correct length of loin, good bone with tight compact feet, correct waving plume tail set, broad and heavily muscled thighs, in very good condition. Turns her head on the move which sometimes throws out her front, but still a nice all-round bitch.

OB (15,5)
1. Mogg’s Stalbridge Summertime in Skidooshooz. Love this female. Beautiful head type strong but feminine, small in proportion to head and well set/shaped ears, dark almond shaped eye, good width and depth of skull, moderately arched neck, gently sloping topline which she kept on the move, correct waving plume, good spring of rib, correct length of loin, strong bone and compact feet. So pleasing on the move, her feet converged to the center line of her body, she showed excellent movement, steady and balanced. To be critical I would prefer better handling to get the best from her which nearly cost her BB, CC and BOB. Looked lovely in the group ring.
2 Loades’ Snowolf Manhatten Marvel. Feminine in head, good front and rear angulation, moderately arched neck, correct sloping topline, correct tail set, clean coming and going and efficient side gait with enough bone for a female. Out of coat today.
