Judge's Critiques
Thank you to Blackpool and District Canine Society for the appointment and for their hospitality. I would like to thank everyone who entered and to my stewards who ensured the day ran smoothly. I am pleased with my final placing in most classes, junior bitch was so difficult and some quality bitches didn’t even get placed. In general the overall quality of bitches is stronger than dogs. Presentation and handling is improving although a lot were out of coat and this can affect final places when it’s close. Breeders need to be careful, heads are becoming too large which would not be efficient in working dogs; I don’t want a husky type head but also there has to be a limit. Mouths are getting better but concentrate on loose lips this would be a serious fault in the conditions they were bred for. Very pleased that my BOB went group 2, and the BPIB went group 4.
MPD(3,1a)
1 Rutherford & Michelson’s CELTICICE SOLIDUS ORINOCO. Nice black and white male with dark oblique eye, correct ear set and shape. Good length of neck and gently sloping topline leading to an excellent tail set. Harsh coat. Clean coming and going but a little leggy at the moment which affected his side gait. Will take time to grow into his frame.
2 Wilkinson and Jelfs’ SAVANITE DRUS MIRACLE PARA LAPEMA. Different in type to 1. Nice head for a young boy with more substance than 1, good depth and width of muzzle and correct eye shape and set. In good coat and clean coming and going. Slightly toeing out at this stage and gave his handler plenty to do, being very excitable on the move which spoiled his outline.
PD (6,2a)
1 Molloy & Edwards KOOLRUNNINGS ROCK WITH YOU. Loved his head piece. Very compact boy, dark almond shaped eye, small ears thick and well set. Good width of skull with a well arched length of neck, gently sloping topline and compact snowshoe feet. Good bone and substance, small hocks and his quality didn’t change when standing or on the move. Well presented. BPIB and Puppy group 4.
2 John’s SHOMONT RAISIN SUSPICIONS AMOUNG CRISTAKELL. Different in type to 1. Lively boy with a beautiful alert expression. Another with lovely small ears, good lay back of shoulder, strong topline, correct very harsh coat, excellent in front and rear. Beautiful extension in his side gait, he is a dream to watch on the move. Ran 1 very close.
JD (9,4a)
1 Mort’s ARCTICBREEZE MIDNITE HERO. Really like this boy. Out of coat on the day, he has a beautiful head piece with good width and depth of muzzle leading to oblique dark eye with well set and shaped ears. Good bone and spring of rib, correct tail set and good front and rear angulation. Clean on the move with good side gait but needs to mature in width of chest.
2 Cameron & Helleur CHAYO FAME AND FORTUNE. Very well handled boy, again not in full coat. Good width and depth of chest with well arched neck and gently sloping topline. Good length of leg and strong bone. Clean coming and going but slightly longer in loin which shows in his side gait.
3 Atkinson’s AUSTMANS ABOVE THE LAW FOR EKATI. Very different in type to 1&2, smaller in stature but with good bone and substance. Lovely small ears and a masculine head, slightly longer coat but still correct and harsh, good width of chest, tight compact feet and small hocks. Nice extension on the move.
PGD (11,2a)
1 Plant & Stanyer’s CATUA DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. Very masculine in head without being coarse and well arched neck leading to correct sloping topline. Good substance and spring of rib and lovely outline with correct tail set and carriage. Strong in pastern, well handled and in good coat. Kept his profile on the move but would like a little more reach and drive. He is maturing very nicely.
2 Fotheringham’s TAILFLY’S SUNTOWER ASKING. Pushed 1 very hard. Similar in type to 1, I like everything about this boy. He has good structure and angles, good bone and substance and moved with excellent drive and extension. Slightly high in shoulder placement which cost him. Well presented. Both dogs could work all day.
3 John’s CRISTAKELL AOELIAN NITE. Very masculine in head with good depth and width of muzzle, just enough stop and strong in skull. Correct in shoulder placement, well sprung rib cage and good rear angulation. A powerful looking boy but not as settled as 1&2 on the move.
LD (8,1a)
1 Sheehan’s HAWKAM LEADING THE TRAIL VIA AMAQQUT. Good sized male, looking much better than last time I judged him. Nice overall proportions with good bone and substance well arched neck and a gently sloping topline. Correct harsh coat with a waving plume tail set, compact snowshoe feet and strong in rear. Very well presented and handled, a well balanced boy.
2 Howarth’s HAWKAM LIMITED EDITION. Litter brother to 1. Lovely typy head, with beautiful thick small ears, and dark oblique eyes. In very hard condition with correct harsh top coat and dense undercoat. A lovely standing profile but I think the weather had an effect on him and was a little lethargic on the final move.
3 Roper’s TOKOSHA’S ATKA. Love this boy. Broad skull without being coarse, small thick ears, excellent well arched neck and topline, correct tail set. Very well presented in good hard condition, he covers the ground with ease but not on his best behaviour which cost him today. A lovely male who will do very well.
OD (11,3a) STRONG CLASS, lovely examples of the breed.
1 Bebiano’s EQUINOX WOODRAM POLARI USVIT. Good width and depth of skull, dark oblique eye, lovely small thick ears, level bite, well arched neck and sloping topline, tight compact feet. In excellent coat, he showed his quality on the move as well as standing. True and steady on the move. Excellent presentation and handling to get the best from him. CC and pleased to see him take Working Group 2.
2 Whittaker’s CHAYO VANQUISH. I have always loved this boy. He has a wonderful expression, broad skull with dark oblique eye, small well set ears and a lovely topline. I would prefer a better tail set. Good bone and feet, nice length of leg and very powerful on the move. Out of coat and not at his best today, spoiling his final look.
3 Molloy’s SNOWSHOES SHADOW AT WINTABLIZARD. Very different in type to 1&2, longer in muzzle and not as strong in head but excellent topline and tail set, good bone and width and depth of chest. Very nice overall proportions and strong on the move. Very well presented to show his best qualities.
VD (3,1a)
1 Wilkinson’s GWINNER LAPEMA STAR DE JUNGLA NEGRA. Still thinks he’s a puppy. Very soft expression with lovely small ears, still showing his topline. Good bone, feet and substance with waving plume tail set. Good coming and going, he moved well today.
2 Loades’ SNOWOLF LONG ISLAND T. Different in type to 1. Nice expression, dark oblique eye, lovely expression, correct sloping topline with a correct tail set. Good front and rear angulation but would prefer more bone. A little giddy on the move today but a quality boy.
MPB (4,1a)
1 Roach and Piper’s CELTICICE DENARIUS XHANXI. Very typy bitch, very dark in eye with nice overall proportions. Excellent tail set, harsh coat, good bone and tight compact feet. Bum high at the moment, she moved well in spells but needs more show training to get the best out of her.
2 Briggs’ SNOBRUCK ALASKAN DREAM. Slightly larger ears than I would like and dark but slightly round in eye. Good width of chest, nice spring of rib and waving plume tail set with nice forechest for her age. Another that requires more training.
3 Frater’s SNOBRUCK DREAM SEEKER. Litter sister to 2. Similar in quality and hard to separate them. Good overall profile, nice forechest and tail set. Couldn’t assess her mouth and another that will benefit from quality ring training to see her at her best.
PB (5,1a)
1 Mobb’s JUSTAMI MILLION DOLLAR BABY. Nice depth and width of muzzle, dark oblique eye, slightly large ears, nice straight front with good amount of bone and tight snowshoe feet. Clean coming and going with good drive. Tail set spoilt her profile.
2 Briggs’ SNOBRUCK ALASKAN DREAM,
JB (13,3a, 1 withdrawn) Excellent class and disappointed that some quality bitches did not even get a place.
1 Roger’s and Wheeler’s MONIKOONA’S ECLIPSE AT NORTHSPIRIT. Lovely feminine head and expression with dark almond shaped eye, small well set and shaped ears and good width of skull. Good bone and width/depth of chest with well sprung ribs and correct length of loin. Moved well and handled well, I’m sure she will compete for higher awards when mature. Lovely presentation.
2 Mort’s ARCTICBREEZE MIDNIGHT ECHO. Another lovely bitch, VERY close with 1. Very feminine with lovely head piece, strong front, lovely arch of neck and sloping topline. Good front and rear angulation which showed in her strong movement. Slightly out of coat but you can still see her quality on the move or standing.
3 Blaney’s WINDBERG’S PAPARAZZI TO FENRIRKIN. Black and white bitch, a bit nervous but has quality. Lovely feminine head with good length of neck and layback of shoulder and correct tail set. Clean coming and going and excellent extension on her side gait. Well presented and handled.
PGB (12,5a)
1 Wilkinson’s KOLDSNAP APRILA MILLE. Liked her type. Good width and straight front, excellent head, excellent front and rear angulations, correct waving plume tail set. Liked her on the move but carrying a little weight and this spoilt her in the challenge.
2 Ballington-Graham’s CATUA ON THE RUN. Another lovely bitch that oozes femininity with a lovely expression, small ears, good lay back of shoulder, good topline, tail set and correct harsh top coat. Moved with drive. Well handled and on another day could change position with 1.
3 Wilkinson & Jelfs, NESKYLA STAR SOPRA LAPEMA. Different in type to 1&2. Good depth and width of skull but would prefer a darker eye. Well arched neck, sloping topline and correct tail set. I would like to see a little more bone. Not as settled on the move as 1&2 but the handler had his work cut out.
LB (14,3a) Best class of the day so far.
1 Vasarhelyi’s OKINASTAR FIRST LADY. Gorgeous head, strong but still feminine. Dark eye, well set/shaped small ears, broad in skull with just enough stop and in lovely harsh coat. Compact in body, correct length of loin, good bone and substance with well let down hock and strong pasterns. She caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Beautiful side gait and just needs to mature in chest to finish her off. CC
2 Loades’ SNOWOLF MANHATTEN MARVEL. Different in type to 1 but still a quality female, excellent in all areas with a lovely standing profile. In good coat with good length of neck, feminine in skull, good overall proportions and a beautiful tail set. She kept her profile on the move, moving with drive and well schooled.
3 Roper’s TOKOSHA ISSUMATAR. Black and white female, very striking with a dark almond shape eye, soft expression and small well set/shaped ears. I would prefer more width in forechest. Correct front and rear angulation but not as much drive as 1&2. Roadwork will improve this.
OB (14,5a) OUTSTANDING CLASS.
1 O’Regan’s MONIKOONA’S CHASING RAINBOWS. Loved her type. Good width of muzzle with just enough stop. Broad skull with small well furred ears, good strong forechest, correct 50/50 depth of chest to length of leg. Well placed shoulders and in good harsh coat with strong pasterns. Clean coming and going but could tone up more. Not as good in presentation as the CC winner and played up in the challenge. Res CC.
2 Ellis’s CHAYO BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE. Strong in head and muzzle, broad skull, dark oblique eye, well arched neck, strong in substance. Well sprung rib with correct length of loin, good bone and size of feet. Slightly low set ears. Well handled and powerful on the move, another which pushed hard for a higher placing.
3 Vasarhelyi’s CEDARCREEK DEEPEST DREAM. Not quite as polished as 1&2 she has a feminine head, correct scissor bite and enough stop. More coat but correct length with harsh top coat and thick dense undercoat. Good substance. Smooth coming and going but would prefer more drive on the side gait. Well handled in a very good class.
VB (4,1)
1 Wilkinson’s GORKEANE DE JUNGRA NEGRA. Small well-furred set/shaped ears. She kept her shape for her age with a good topline, waving plume tail set, good bone and compact feet. Still has correct angulation which shows in her movement and covering the ground with ease for a veteran.
2 Butler’s KAYTOO WINTER ASCENT. Really like this female. Lovely profile with beautiful head and well arched neck. Correct in front and rear, good shoulder placement with a strong topline flowing into a correct tail set. Strong on the move but a little overweight which cost her today.
3 Botterill & McMurray’s CHAYO BLACK MAGIC. Larger female and out of coat. Not as sound as 1&2 but strong in head, good spring of rib with correct length of loin, good bone and substance. Played up a little for the handler who did a good job today.
