Judge's Critiques
It was an honour to judge our breed at the Breed Club Championship Show; my sincere thanks to all exhibitors for your support and to the committee for the invitation. I was very pleased with the quality of the entry, and the veteran classes were outstanding.
Baby Puppy (2)
1. Brouard’s Orsamals Una Lelu. 4 months. Lovely youngster of good shape and balance with super bone. Good pasterns and feet. Balanced head proportions with good back skull and scissors bite. Really nice layback of shoulder and front assembly with good body proportions. Correct coat, well presented. Nice, balanced side gait and clean moving up and back with strong rear and correct tail. BBP.
2. Smith’s Snowshoes Time For Jenga. 4 months. Another very pretty puppy. Head not quite as developed as 1 at this stage and slightly shorter coupled. Correct bite. Good bone for age; correct pasterns and feet. Overall balance very good, slightly forward in upper arm. Carrying a correct coat in great condition and well presented. Correct tail. Not quite as settled on the move as my winner and I just preferred the front coming towards of 1
PD (1)
1. Jelf’s Chayo Fire It Up For Lapema. 10 months. Well-boned youngster with good shoulders, front assembly and prosternum. Large feet with well-arched toes. Needs to strengthen a little in front pasterns. Really lovely head and dark pigment, correct stop, dark almond-shaped eyes. Strong neck and body with deep chest. Carrying a good coat and presented in well-muscled condition. Lovely balanced side gait with good ground coverage and clean moving up and back. BPD & RBPIS.
JD (1)
1. Burgess & Page’s Cedarcreek The Only Way Is Up. 18 months. I really liked the outline and overall balance of this youngster. Handsome head of good proportions with strong back skull; good muzzle size and depth. Would prefer slightly less stop and a little rounder eye than ideal. Dark pigment and scissors bite. Strong body with deep chest and firm loin, good bone and broad thighs. A little forward in front assembly and would prefer slightly more prosternum. Carrying a good coat and beautifully presented with correct tail. Light on his feet with an easy, efficient side gait and firm topline. Would prefer a little more precision in front coming towards at times, but I really did like him a lot. BJIS.
YD (1)
1. Burgess & Page’s Cedarcreek The Only Way Is Up.
PGD (4,1)
1. Copley-Holland & Jensen’s Katabatic Bountyhunter , well-balanced 2-year-old carrying a good coat. Lovely head and muzzle proportions with broad back skull and correct stop. Short, strong pasterns and good feet. I liked his shoulders and front assembly, strong chest and firm loin. Powerful rear with broad thighs. Correct tail set and carriage. Moved with an easy, rhythmic, balanced side gait and clean coming and going.
2. Gibson’s Boreal Routes Conundrum For Ahtohallan (Imp Swe) athletic, well-boned, lively 2-year-old with strong body and deep chest. Broad back skull with lovely almond eye shape and correct stop, dark pigment. Shown in very well-muscled condition with strong loin. Different in style and slightly longer framed than 1. Carrying a correct coat and tail. Balanced mover.
3. Burgess’ Katabatics Dark Knight, slightly heavier set 2-year-old of good balance. Strong head with broad back skull and bulky muzzle, good pigment. Would prefer slightly less stop and he is a little light in eye; would also prefer smaller ears. Good length of neck and strong body shown in excellent muscle condition with firm loin. Proportionate bone for size and good feet. Slightly forward in upper arm and not as precise on the move; needs to tighten in pasterns.
LD (8,0)
1. Burgess & Page’s Cedarcreek The Only Way Is Up.
2. Darlow’s Iceclimb Ascent, lovely 7-year-old whom I have judged before. Very close decision between 1 and 2 today; he is balanced and powerful with good proportions. Strong shoulders and neck with deep chest and well-sprung rib. Handsome head with broad skull and muzzle, correct bite. Correct feet and strong pasterns. Lovely mover in profile with efficient, effortless action and powerful rear, clean up and back. Unlucky to meet 1 in such good form today.
3. Semple & Lockhart’s Chinanook’s Voodoo King At Iceonfyr (Imp Bel) Handsome 3-year-old with a beautiful headpiece, good back skull and stop, dark pigment and thick ear leather. Well boned with deep chest, squarer frame than 1 and 2, slightly sloping topline and strong loin. Well-laid shoulders and correct coat. Balanced side gait but not the precision in front coming towards and needs to tighten in pasterns.
OD (5,1), nice class.
1. Tozzi’s Multi Ch The Magician Uniroyal, impressive, standard-sized 7-year-old with exceptional style. Presents such a balanced profile standing and moving; nothing overdone. Lovely headpiece with dark almond-shaped eyes, balanced skull and muzzle proportions and dark pigment. Well boned with strong front assembly, lovely layback of shoulder and slightly sloping topline. Good feet with well-arched toes and short, slightly sloping pasterns. Strong rear with broad thighs and well let-down hocks. Moved with efficient, clean, easy and rhythmic action with good ground coverage in profile, clean and sound up and back. Held a steady topline throughout and carried a beautiful waving plume with good foot placement. Well handled and presented. Super dog. DCC, BOS, BVD.
2. Ch Jelf’s Lapema Malizioso. 5 years. Another super-quality male with a beautiful head and expression; well balanced with dark, correctly shaped eyes. Strong jaws with bulky muzzle and dark pigment. Good length of neck into well-laid shoulders, balanced front assembly and good forechest. Well ribbed with strong loin and lovely broad thighs, well muscled throughout. Correct coat, well presented and handled. Presents a beautiful profile standing and moving; I just preferred the topline on the move of my winner today.
3. Hughes’ Casiat Giro D’Italia To Ukluk – 6 years. Lovely seal male with a beautiful head and expression; loved his head proportions. Dark eyes and broad back skull, thick ear leather and strong muzzle, dark pigment. Well-balanced frame with good bone and correct feet. Strong neck with well-laid shoulders, correct sloping topline and good ribbing. Carrying a good coat and well presented. Lovely balanced side gait with strong, long, powerful rear, just not quite as precise as 1 and 2 in front today.
VD (8,1) lovely class.
1. Tozzi’s Multi Ch The Magician Uniroyal.
2. Reid’s Ch Austmans Cowboy Casanova At Jaydonspire, gorgeous 8-year-old with a beautiful outline. I loved his handsome, typical, mature head, thick ear leather, dark eyes and pigment. Well boned and carrying a lovely correct coat. Balanced shoulders and strong, well-arched neck, good spring of rib and strong loin. Powerful thighs perfectly balanced with front, giving a beautiful ground-covering, efficient side gait with no interference. I loved watching him move. Unlucky to meet 1 today; I just preferred the prosternum of my winner. RDCC.
3. Singh’s Mountain Home Sledog Staxtacular (Imp USA) Another super-quality, standard-sized 9-year-old male. I loved his handsome head, strong without being overdone and beautifully balanced. Dark pigment with broad back skull, correct stop and eye shape. Presents strength and balance with heavy bone and good feet. Deep chest with good spring of rib and strong loin. Strong neck and well-laid shoulders with good return of upper arm, broad thighs and strong hocks. Shown in great body condition with balanced side gait and clean up and back. Three lovely veterans.
PB (1)
1. Smith’s Snowshoes Sweet Symphony. Gorgeous 10-month-old with a beautiful outline and balance. Angles perfectly matched with well-laid shoulders, strong rear, well-let-down hocks and broad thighs. Strong neck of good length, slightly sloping topline and correct tail. Good chest depth for age and well-sprung ribs. Well boned and carrying a lovely coat. Very pretty head; I loved her stop and eye shape, dark pigment and scissors bite. Superb side action and beautifully presented. I loved her and look forward to seeing her mature. Delighted to award her BPB & BPIS.
JB (1)
1 Druce, Druce & Aitchison’s Kaskae Ooh La La Avec Durcie JW. 15 months. Pretty, eye-catching young lady with balanced angles and good shoulder layback. Well boned with good feet. Good length of neck well arched into lovely shoulders. Broad back skull with strong muzzle and dark pigment; would prefer smaller ears. Good spring of rib and loin length. Clean moving up and back with a balanced, free side gait. Needs to strengthen in back as she had a slight bounce to her topline. Tail carriage OK but I would prefer more angle to croup.
YB (2)
1. Prescott’s Leuldar Beautiful Rosa Of Bearnortham (IKC) 17 months. Super smart-looking seal, I loved her shape and balance. Beautiful head and expression with broad skull, dark pigment and balanced muzzle proportions, slightly light in eye, scissors bite. Well boned for size with strong pasterns, lovely shoulders and good spring of rib, broad thighs and correct tail. Very balanced side gait with clean, easy action and firm topline on the move.
2. Smith’s Snowshoes Light The Way – 13 months. Pretty youngster with good outline, front assembly and length of neck. Lovely shoulders, super head with correct eye shape and slight stop. Good feet with well-arched toes. Good length and spring of rib with strong loin and broad thigh. Moved out OK;. I preferred the rear and hocks of 1. BJB.
PGB (4,2)
1. Hughes’ Arctictribes Strange Magic To Ukluk – 23 months. Super smart youngster; I liked her head shape and balance, good back skull and well-placed ears, dark pigment and good muzzle proportions, lovely almond-shaped eyes. Nice length of neck with good shoulder layback and return of upper arm. Good bone and length of leg for age and size, well ribbed, just needs to drop slightly in chest. Strong broad thighs. She naturally stands well in profile and holds herself well, presenting a balanced, efficient side gait. She needs to broaden in chest and tighten in front, but has plenty of time. Well presented and handled.
2. Darlow’s Juneau’s Bright Future For Iceclimb (Imp DNK) 2 years. Nice seal with attractive head and good body proportions, slightly squarer than 1 but balanced. Nice layback to shoulders with good feet, bone OK, good spring of rib and strong loin. I liked her rear with strong hocks and broad thighs. Moved well in side gait but not as settled coming and going, with a slight tendency to cross in front.
LB (7,3)
1. Morris’ Chayo Love On The Rocks. 2 years. Attractive, well-boned youngster with lovely balance to her outline, large feet and beautiful head shape with strong muzzle and good back skull, slight stop, correct eye shape and ear set, dark pigment. I liked her shape and size, good rib length and loin. Good front assembly with balanced rear and strong, well-let-down hocks, giving a balanced and efficient side gait. Clean up and back, best mover in the class.
2. Perfitt’s Samjoe Seelie Queen, rising 3 years. Slightly smaller frame than 1, pretty head slightly narrower in back skull with thick ear leather and dark pigment, correct eye shape. Good length of neck with nice shoulder lay. Good bone for size with correct feet, good body proportions, nice spring of rib and broad thigh. Moved OK in side gait but would prefer more drive; could not match the movement of 1 coming and going today.
3. Burgess’ Tolketna Top Of The World To Mountainglen, rising 4 years, slightly larger framed. Presents a nice profile with slightly sloping topline and balanced angles, slightly forward in upper arm. Good depth of chest, broad thighs and strong hocks. Attractive head with good eye shape and correct stop; ears slightly low set. Balanced side gait but needs to tighten in front coming towards.
OB (6,3)
1. Copley-Holland’s Ch Katabatics Troubleshooter JW. 2 years. Super female with beautifully balanced front and rear angles, presenting a lovely profile. Good substance with great front assembly and forechest, good feet with well-arched toes and strong pasterns. Beautiful head of good proportions with correct eye shape and dark pigment. Good depth of chest and spring of rib with strong loin and hocks, correct tail. Best mover in the class with powerful rear drive, correct sloping topline held steady on the move and good foot placement. I liked her a lot.
2. Page’s Ch The Magician Bloody Mary Cedarcreek (Imp Ita) 5 years. Another quality female with lovely outline, close up to 1. Typical head with strong skull and good pigment, slightly rounder and lighter in eye, thick ear leather. Lovely strong neck with great shoulders and front assembly, good prosternum and strong pasterns. Good ribbing, correct topline and tail, strong rear. Good coat, well presented. Moved very well all ways; I preferred the side gait and drive of 1 today.
3. Bogle & Horsefield’s Cahppes Tailwind Takala At Valknut (Imp Swe) 5 years. Standard-sized seal with good head proportions, slightly rounder and lighter eye, strong muzzle and good back skull, dark pigment. Nice strong neck and good shoulder layback, slightly forward in upper arm and would prefer stronger front pasterns. Good bone for size and deep rib cage. Side gait OK, narrower throughout than 1 and 2 and not as precise in front movement.
VB (3,1)
1. Brouard’s Ch/Jsy Ch Sutarka Coco Chanel At Orsamals PDH, rising 9 years. Attractive, well balanced and thoroughly enjoying herself today. Pretty head with slight stop, thick ear leather, good back skull and strong muzzle, dark pigment. Well boned with lovely feet and arch to toes. Good front assembly with strong, well-laid shoulders, strong body with deep chest and well-let-down hocks. Moved very well with balanced side gait and clean coming and going.
2. Perfitt’s Samjoe’s The One And Only VW, rising 8 years. Pretty female of lovely balance and good angles, narrower through head and back skull but with thick ear leather and almond-shaped eyes, good pigment. Plenty of bone for size and shown in lovely coat condition. Good topline and tail, another nice mover; I preferred the head of my winner. Well presented and handled.
SpVB (6,1), a great class of veteran ladies and the class of the day for me:
1. Woodhead’s Koromandel Rushin Around For Noraisy 12 years. Heading a wonderful class, I was delighted to find this superb female. Standard sized and moderate in every way, she presented a lovely picture standing. Shown in great body condition, firm and well muscled. Balanced head with good back skull and proportions, strong well-arched neck, lovely shoulders and front assembly. Plenty of bone with super feet and pasterns, lovely strong broad thighs and well-let-down hocks. She moved with outstanding balance and efficiency; clean coming and going, effortless side gait, firm topline throughout and excellent foot placement. She outmoved every dog on the day and I was delighted to award her BB, BV & BIS.
2. Wadrup’s Just Got To Love Me Polar Usvit, rising 12 years. Another fabulous female whom I have judged previously and still admire greatly. Beautiful headpiece with strength and balance, lovely angles, good bone, strong feet and pasterns, super front matched by strong rear and correct tail. On the move she excels with ground-covering, effortless gait. Well deserved RBCC & RBIS.
3. Brouard’s Dreamwolves J’Adore At Orsamals PDH. 11 years. Lovely seal with beautiful head and expression, good back skull and correct ears, plenty of bone with good feet. Very balanced angles with lovely broad thighs and super front, moved very well all ways. Another cracker.
